Tokyo Skytree – Additional information
Tokyo Skytree is a 634m television tower which opened in 2012. It has become a well-known landmark in Tokyo and has attracted many visitors both domestic and from overseas. At last, I was able to visit Skytree this November.
Its modern steel mesh exterior is eye-catching even from far away. As I got closer, the gigantic metal structure grew bigger and bigger and overwhelmed me.
I enjoyed the view from the first observation deck at 350m before taking the elevator up to the highest deck at 450m. I visited on a fine day with clear skies just before the sunset, so to see a panoramic view of the city against a backdrop of the blue and orange sky changing to night was a lucky opportunity!
It was probably the beginner’s luck of a first-time visitor!
In the tower, you can find many aspects of Japanese taste in many places such as in the elevator, on the wall of the air corridor or in souvenir shops. But, the most significant one is the basis of the entire structure of Tokyo Skytree. This amazing tower was built using the old techniques of building Japanese pagodas in the 8th century!
